Xiamen Overseas Immersion Programme 2017' (Day 1)
This year, Queensway NPCC cadets, alongside Queenswayans from other CCAs embarked on a trip to Xiamen, China for 5 days and 4 nights, starting from the 22nd November to 26 November. During this trip to Xiamen, our cadets and students learnt the basic history of the city, it's proximity to Taiwan, as well as the background of some of the prominent people that helped in the building of not only Xiamen but Singapore too, such as Tan Kah Kee, who've got an MRT station named after him.

Arriving at the airport
While waiting to clear customs.
After everyone has cleared customs and claimed their baggage, we met our tour guide and boarded the bus to a nearby Halal restaurant for lunch. At the restaurant, students got a glimpse of the cuisine that will preside over for the next few days of their stay here in Xiamen.

Hands-on cooking workshop
Following lunch, we went to the hands-on cooking workshop about an hour's journey from the place we had our lunch. At the workshop, we got an insight on how dumplings and traditional cakes are made, we even made them ourselves and subsequently got to taste it. Besides the making of dumplings and traditional cakes, we got to see how soybean drink is made from scratch, and similarly, we had a taste of the homemade soybean drink.

Evening: Shopping, dine and unwind
After a long day, from getting up early in the morning to arrive at the airport on time to catch our flight to Xiamen, to embarking on long journeys and making dumplings, it was time for dinner to get some much-needed energy to refuel for the rest of that evening.
But first, we went shopping at the Walmart in the mall to purchase all that stuff you'd imagine students will buy, from a range of instant noodles to an assortment of beverages, as well as playing around at the claw machines.
The almighty Walmart, a haven for students to shop and grab all those good stuff they want. xD
Just look at the number of items one student (inserts two more) has bought, and *surprise*surprise*, it's ridiculously cheap, where in Singapore, this much of groceries can cost an upwards of a good hundred dollars.
Okay, aside from the shopping galore, we went for dinner, where coincidently the restaurant we will be dining in at is just on the top floors of this mall and so, carrying such humongous amounts of goods bought from Walmart has been made easy.
Here show the students of two tables anticipating for that much-needed fuel -- dinner.
There was just one word to describe the dinner for the day, which is appetising.
Later, after we enjoyed our meal, we went to our hotel which will be our adobe for the next four nights and got our room keys. That feeling of getting our room keys was an exciting moment but wasn't really expressed because of how lethargic most of us were feeling.
We were later then debriefed by our teachers and had our reflections done.
